Under the direction of Paul Cienniwa, Newport Baroque Orchestra (Newport, Rhode Island, USA)
is a professional period-instrument orchestra devoted to the music of the 17th-
and 18th-centuries. Founded in 2003, Newport Baroque Orchestra is
well-suited to the 18th-century character of Newport's historic
center, and its concerts reflect the city's historic preservation initiatives.
In this spirit, Newport is linked to the performing arts of the period, and, with
its own period-instrument orchestra, Newport lives the past through the passion
and beauty of historical music.
A federally recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, Newport Baroque Orchestra is
involved in community educational outreach through free pre-concert lectures
and in-school performances. In 2006, the orchestra performed with the community-based
Providence Singers, and, since 2005, the orchestra has partnered with higher
education, including programming with Providence College and Tufts University.
